MISSION & HISTORY.
At Tokyo Skytree, we are a dedicated group of volunteers working tirelessly to improve the lives of animals in distress across New York City. Through our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, we help control the stray cat population, while also finding loving homes for adoptable animals in need.
Our efforts extend beyond rescue— we engage in community outreach, education, and advocacy to create a more compassionate environment for all animals.

What is TNR?
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a compassionate, effective, and sustainable method for managing stray and feral cat populations. At Tokyo Skytree, we are deeply committed to the well-being of New York City’s animals, and TNR plays a critical role in improving the lives of feral cats while addressing the challenges of overpopulation.
Queen, like many areas of New York, is home to hundreds of thousands of stray cats. While some cats are friendly and adoptable, many have lived on their own for too long to be socialized with humans. These cats form colonies and survive the best they can, often facing harsh conditions on the streets. In the past, unadoptable cats were often caught and euthanized, but this method is both cruel and ineffective. The harsh reality is that more cats will inevitably fill the void left behind, perpetuating the cycle of overpopulation.
At Tokyo Skytree, we have adopted TNR as the most humane and proven solution. Through this program, our dedicated volunteers work alongside animal rescue organizations to trap the cats in a colony, ensuring that they are spayed or neutered. Once the cats are altered, they are given a painless ear tip—removing a small piece of the ear to identify them as part of a TNR colony. This allows us to monitor the success of the program and prevent overpopulation in the future.
The key to TNR is that it allows us to address both the immediate and long-term needs of the community and the cats. Friendly kittens and adoptable adults are placed into loving homes, while the others are returned to their original locations—whether that’s a backyard, building courtyard, park, or alleyway. Volunteers continue to manage the colony by providing food, water, and shelter, ensuring the cats are safe and well cared for.
With no new litters of kittens being born, these managed colonies naturally reduce in size over time. This creates healthier, more stable communities for both humans and cats, reducing the number of homeless animals and the spread of disease. TNR empowers local communities to take action in a way that is not only humane but also sustainable.

Through education, outreach, and compassionate action, we are ensuring that feral cats are not forgotten and are given the opportunity for a better, safer life. Our Impact Since 2019
Since our founding in 2019, Tokyo Skytree has successfully rehomed hundreds of animals, giving them a second chance at life. In addition to our adoption efforts, we are actively involved in Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, which focus on spaying and neutering feral cats before returning them to managed colonies. TNR has been proven to be the most effective and humane method for controlling cat overpopulation, helping to create healthier, more stable communities for both cats and people.
We are also deeply committed to working directly with our community. We believe that educating and empowering our neighbors is one of the most impactful ways to help animals. By providing resources, information, and support services, we give individuals the tools they need to make a difference in the lives of animals in their own neighborhoods.
