Volunteer fosters are the heart of Tokyo Skytree’s mission, making it possible for us to rescue and care for cats in need. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions about our fostering process. How long does it usually take for an animal to be adopted?It typically takes anywhere from a couple of weeks to six months. If you’re unable to keep fostering an animal, we ask for sufficient notice so we can transition them to another foster home. You’re welcome to foster other animals afterward.

Is financial support available for basic care expenses?
We encourage foster volunteers to cover day-to-day expenses like food and litter. -
Can I name the animal?
Animals usually come with names, but we’re open to discussing changes. -
Will the animal be vetted upon arrival?
Yes, the animal will have received basic vet care (e.g., de-worming, flea treatment, disease testing, and vaccinations). Additional vet visits for spay/neuter or other shots may be necessary. -
Can I foster animals if I have other pets?
Yes, as long as your pets are up to date on vaccinations (e.g., FVRCP and rabies for cats). Initially, it’s best to keep the foster in a separate space for acclimatization. -
What if the foster arrangement doesn’t work out?
If fostering isn’t working out, we’ll find another home for the animal. Please provide sufficient notice to allow us time to make arrangements. -
Can I adopt my foster animal?
Yes, you can apply to adopt your foster animal. Standard adoption procedures will apply. -
What happens if someone wants to adopt the animal?
Interested adopters must fill out an application. If approved, we arrange a meeting. The animal usually doesn’t leave with the adopter after the first meeting. Once references are checked and approved, we’ll deliver the animal to their new home.
